pregnancy & postpartum anxiety
Approximately 6% of pregnant women and 10% postpartum develop anxiety either alone or in addition to depression.
Symptoms can include the following:
- Constant worry
- Feeling that something bad will happen
- Racing thoughts
- Disturbances of sleep or appetite
- Inability to sit still
- Physical symptoms such as dizziness, hot flashes, and nausea
Risk factors for perinatal anxiety and panic include a personal or family history of anxiety, previous perinatal depression or anxiety, or thyroid imbalance.
Don't be afraid, remember that this is only temporary and can be treated with professional help.
