Postpartum Support International Holds Annual Climb Out of the Darkness
July 28 Right Here in Corpus Christi
Climbs held worldwide to raise awareness of perinatal mental health
Corpus Christi, TX— Climb Out of the Darkness®, the world’s largest event raising awareness of pregnancy and postpartum mental health disorders, will hold a regional Climb in Corpus Christi on July 28. Women and men who are survivors of postpartum depression (PPD), anxiety, OCD, bipolar disorder, and psychosis will walk, stroll or climb together at Water's Edge Park to symbolize their collective rise out of the darkness as well as to raise funds for Corpus Christi Maternal Mental Health Coalition (CCMMHC) and Postpartum Support International (PSI), both are nonprofit organizations of support and resources for women.
The stakes are high, and we are all in it together. This is the sixth annual Climb Out of the Darkness®, but this is the first time it is being held in Corpus Christi. We are holding it on the longest day of the year to shine the most possible light on maternal mental illness.
Everyone is invited to participate in our Climb event. Participants must register prior to the event at https://climb-out-2018.causevox.com/team/ccmmhc - Sponsorships from local businesses are also being accepted. Please contact our Climb Leader, Liz Perez, at (361) 207-0157 or email@example.com for more information on sponsorships that will help support the Climb.
“It is an exciting time for Climb Out of the Darkness and a growing awareness worldwide of the mental health needs of new and expecting parents,” said Wendy N. Davis, Executive Director of Postpartum Support International. “Working together, we are improving the safety net for families around the world. This event unifies those suffering, survivors, doctors, therapists, in the fight against perinatal mental health complications. We hope you will join us.”
Corpus Christi Maternal Mental Health Coalition serves the women of our Coastal Bend community who suffer from PMADs by offering a free monthly peer-to-peer support group. We are also currently working on offering additional services to further expand our vision and support. In order to do that, we need the help of the community! This year we are partnered with PSI, which means that of the total raised from donations and sponsorships 75% will go to Corpus Christi Maternal Mental Health Coalition and stay right here in the Coastal Bend, while 25% goes to Postpartum Support International.
“We are excited to partner with PSI this year and hold the first Climb event here in Corpus,” said Liz Perez, executive director of CCMMHC. “This gives those of us that have struggled with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders and those that continue to struggle a chance to come together in support and solidarity for awareness, but also to have a good, fun time.”
